NetNut Deep Dive

Published: 2024-06-17

Written By Owen Crisp

In this guide, we’ll be looking deeper into the residential provider NetNut and more about the technical details of this provider. NetNut is a midground between premium price and quality and is equally a medium among our providers.

Company Overview

Founded in 2017, NetNut operates an expansive network of 85M (and counting) premium proxies, leveraging a hybrid mix of ISP and dynamic residential proxies. A subsidiary of Alarum Technologies Ltd, NetNut is based in Tel Aviv- Israel.

IP Availability and Supply

NetNut's residential pool is one of the largest at Rampage, comprising over 85M residential IP addresses, spanning 200 countries worldwide. This is on par with other providers such as BrightData. Here’s a list of popular countries with good IP availability:

  • USA
  • Mexico
  • France
  • Germany
  • Italy
  • India
  • Canada
  • United Kingdom
  • Argentina
  • Russia

All IPs are ethically sourced. NetNut works with DiviNetworks to acquire them directly from more than 100 ISPs globally.

Proxy Speed and Performance

We tested each residential provider so that you don't need to. Rampage endeavours to create fair, thorough, and reproducible tests to ensure each provider can be compared against another.. Please note, your results may vary based on your individual factors when setting up.

Using a server hosted in a german datacenter, we tested 10,000 rotating proxies across 5 popular locations. These locations were picked to represent popular locations and give global coverage. The locations we used to test all providers were the following:

  • United States of America
  • United Kingdom
  • Canada
  • Germany
  • Hong Kong

Our testing suite checks the proxy connection against IpInfo to remain as impartial as possible. We use the information collected from the request, along with IP enrichment data from IpInfo to provide a clear picture of the proxy.

In addition to the usual metrics, we have provided the standard deviation of the response times. A smaller standard deviation suggests that the scores are tightly clustered around the mean, indicating greater consistency or precision in the measurements.

Finally, this script also records the number of unique IP addresses per region tested, as this can be used as a judgement for the diversity of the IP pool. Here’s the results from the tests of NetNut:

Location and Targeting Options

Through Rampage, NetNut supports only worldwide, country-level targeting as its location options. This is selectable via the dashboard when generating your proxies. There is currently no support for precision targeting.

Per our dashboard, these proxies can be generated in static and rotating varieties from a mix of pre-set country pools. The default session time for static proxies for NetNut is up to 30 minutes; however, we cannot guarantee the sessions are active at that time due to the dynamic nature of these proxies.

NetNut does not support the SOCKS through the Rampage dashboard.

NetNut is in the middle ground regarding pricing with our proxy providers. For non-subscribers, NetNut is currently $7.50 per gigabyte, dropping to $7.40 per gigabyte for those with a Rampage Retail subscription. This is not a budget provider, providing a large IP pool of quality proxies to those who require them. In bulk and committed purchases, prices can become even lower. Please contact us directly for such pricing.

Suggested Use Cases

While NetNut provides a well-rounded, premium proxy, its versatility shines through. Here’s a non-exhaustive list of potential use cases for NetNut’s residential proxies:

  • Travel data aggregation: use these residential proxies to gather information on a large variety of travel data to provide powerful insights.
  • Email protection: guard anonymity and hide the source IP address from prying eyes.
  • SEO Monitoring and SERP: successfully scrape and monitor to ensure your brand sits at the top of the results page every time.

Other potential use cases include sneaker buying, web scraping and data aggregation, ad verification, or price comparison.

Pros and Cons

Pros of NetNut

NetNut brings its pros to the residential proxy market. For example, NetNut’s proxy pool is not built from peer-to-peer (as frequently found in residential proxies). Instead, it sources its proxies primarily through partnerships with internet service providers (ISPs) worldwide. These ISPs allocate residential IP addresses to individual users for their internet connectivity. This is a testament to both IP quality and availability. NetNuts infrastructure is also known for extreme reliability.

The large pool of NetNut also plays in their favour, offering massive diversity for those running large-scale data scraping operations or multi-competitive analysis. At 85M, NetNut stands at the top of IP availability for Rampage’s providers.

Cons of Netnut

The most considerable downside of NetNut's residential proxies is the price. At this price range, there are other considerations for users looking to purchase residential proxies on a budget or on a smaller scale, which could make them unsuitable for those smaller users.

The lack of precision targeting may also be a dealbreaker, being found in providers of similar quality at a lower price. This limits users to use cases that can circumvent the requirement for such targeting options.

What Others Say

We're impartial and keen to share the voice of others and their views on our providers. NetNut holds a shining 5-star level of G2 and a superb 4.4 overall on Trustpilot. Here's a series of reviews taken directly from reputable sites such as TrustPilot, G2, and Captera:

Streamlining Social Media Management: The reliability and ease of use of NetNut’s proxies have greatly enhanced our social media management processes.

Revolutionising Web Data Collection: The diversity and speed of NetNut’s proxies are key to our efficient web data collection and analysis.

That's very good proxy service: One of the best proxy servers I tried in the past few years. The residential proxies are good for extracting data from tough sites.

Executive Summary

NetNut emerges as a compelling choice within the residential proxy offerings at Rampage, offering a balanced blend of quality, reliability, and performance. With over 85 million ethically sourced residential IP addresses spanning 200 countries, NetNut provides users with a versatile solution for various use cases. This is evidenced by its positive reviews on platforms like Trustpilot and G2.

However, potential downsides include the higher price point compared to budget options and the lack of precision targeting features where other providers at a lower price point have these features, which may limit its suitability for specific use cases. In summary, NetNut represents a solid choice for users seeking premium residential proxies with reliability, diversity, and performance at this price point.
